Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

The American College, since its inception, has been adopting a series of changes in its curriculum matching with the advancements in the various Academic subject areas, and the emerging needs and demands from the society. The global perspective of the college has also been a driving force to provide quality education to its students. Autonomy has provided a platform for each department to have their own departmental objectives leading to the emergence of scholars with interdisciplinary background.

Intellectual profundity and wider choices characterize liberal arts and science undergraduate education. CBCS allows students to cross the artificial boundaries of varied academic disciplines and enables them to get the insights of several disciplines bringing out the inherent interest and aptitude.

After two-years of deliberations, our faculty has brought out a version of the choice based credit system that suits the needs and aspirations of the American college community. It is not just a change in the nomenclature but also a paradigm shift in the education practices.

The following are also some of the other expected outcomes:

  • CBCS will develop human resources to suit a wide range of career opportunities
  • It will promote inter-departmental cooperation within the college for a better utilization of the existing infrastructure and human resources.
  • The students can go beyond institutional boundaries by way of transferring credits across accredited institutions.
