NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)-ABOUT

HISTORY

National Service Scheme (NSS) comes under the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.  Gandhi suggested that the students should do something positive so that the life of the villagers might be raised to a higher material and moral level.

ABOUT US

The American College is one among the five colleges under the Madurai Kamaraj University where the NSS programme was introduced during 1969. At present, the college has the largest number of NSS units (9 UNITS) among colleges in the Madurai Kamaraj University.  We are also the pioneer in providing service to the community through our NSS volunteers.

LOGO

The symbol of the National Service Scheme is based on the ‘ Rath ‘ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified form of the Sun-chariot wheel primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. It stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and upliftment. In short, the logo indicates,

Movement – Progressive Cycle of Life Continuity as well as change
