AIDED PROGRAMMES
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Candidates should qualify under any of the following examinations:
- Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Examination, Government of Tamil Nadu.
- Candidates who have passed Senior School Certificate Examination (XII standard) of the Central Board of Secondary Examination with not less than five subjects, of which English shall be one.
- Candidates who have passed ICS Examination of the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination with not less than five subjects, of which English shall be one.
- Candidates who have passed any Examination conducted by a State Government or a University or Board under the 10+2 pattern with not less than five subjects, of which English shall be one.
- Candidates from other universities or bodies and those from other countries having qualification not listed above should send their transcripts to The Registrar, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai – 625021, Tamilnadu, India and obtain provisional eligibility certificate for admission as per Government of India circular, Ministry of Education, dated 20th April 1992.
Additional Requirements for Specific Programmes:
- For B.Sc. Mathematics I Physics I Chemistry: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as subjects at the Higher Secondary level.
- For B.A. Economics, preference will be given to candidates with Mathematics as a subject at the Higher Secondary level.
- For B.Com., Commerce as a subject under the academic or vocational stream at the Higher Secondary level.
- For B.Sc. Zoology I B.Sc. Botany : Biology or Botany and Zoology as subjects at the Higher Secondary level.
Note: Each undergraduate student should opt for any one of the following co- curricular activites. Any activity chosen thus will be for four semesters.
- National Cadet Corps (Army)
- National Cadet Corps (Navy)
- National Service Scheme
- Physical Education
The students of all undergraduate programmes should compulsorily study a language under Part I. Tamil, Hindi & French are the options available.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
M.A.Tamil
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.A. Examinations in April 2019 in Tamil and hope to secure 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Tamil with 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.A. I B.Sc.Examinations in April 2019 in some other major subjects and hope to secure 55% or more in Part I Tamil.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in some other major subjects and who have secured 55% or more in Part I Tamil.
M.A.English
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.A. Examinations in April 2019 in English or related subjects and hope to secure 40% marks or more in Part Ill Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in English with 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who have appeared for the final semester /final year B.A./ B.Sc. Examinations in April 2019 in some other major subject and hope to secure 60% or more in English after two years of study.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in some other major subject and who have secured 60% or more in Part II English after two years of study.
M.A. Economics
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.A. Examinations in April 2019 in Economics and hope to secure 40% marks or more in Part Ill Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
M.Sc. Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.Sc. Examinations in April 2019 in the appropriate major subjects and hope to secure 40% marks or more in Part Ill Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who hold Bachelor’s Degree in the concerned major subject with 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
M.Sc. Botany
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.Sc. Examinations in April 2019 with Botany/ Biology I Microbiology I Env. Biology I Biochemistry as major subjects and hope to secure 40% marks or more in Part Ill Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the major subject concerned with 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
M.Sc.Zoology
- All those who have appeared for the final semester I final year B.Sc. Examinations in April 2019 with Zoology I Biology as Major or Ancillary subjects and hope to secure 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
OR
- All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in the major subject concerned with 40% marks or more in Part III Major and Ancillaries.
M.Phil. Zoology
- All those who have appeared for M.Sc. Examinations in April 2019 with Zoology I Biology and hope to secure 55% or more.
OR
- All those who hold a Master’s Degree in ZoologyI Biology and have secured 55% or more.
ENTRANCE TESTS FOR PG PROGRAMMES:
Candidates applying for postgraduate programmes are required to take corresponding Entrance Tests as given in the schedule below. Candidates who do not appear for Entrance Tests will NOT be considered for admission.
The candidates will be tested for their basic understanding of the major subject concerned, analytical ability and creativity.
Ranking will be made on the basis of weighing the UG marks against the Entrance Test marks on a 50:50 ratio.
The following is the schedule for Entrance Test for PG programmes:

The Entrance Test question paper will be in MCQ pattern (Multiple Choice Questions).
Candidate is required to shade the correct answer options in the OMR sheet with a HB pencil only.
There is no Entrance Test for PG Tamil, Economics, Botany, Zoology, and M.Phil. Zoology.
Admissions for the above will be based only on applicant’s academic performance. Entrance test results will be published on the day of the test itself.
Last Date and Time for Receipt of Applications for PG Programmes and M.Phil Zoology:
Duly filled-in application forms can be uploaded in the college Website till 5.00 P.M. a day ahead of the Entrance Test.
First list of Admission will be published on or after 29.05.2019 for the programmes for which entrance tests are not held. Those who do not appear for the entrance tests will not be considered for admissions.
All Applicants appearing for Entrance Tests are required to bring their receipt/acknowledgment
This alone will be treated as Hall Ticket.
SELF-FINANCED PROGRAMMES

- For B.Sc. Biochemistry: Chemistry as a subject at the Higher Secondary level. Biology I Zoology I Mathematics subjects at the Higher Secondary level preferred.
- For B.Sc. Microbiology: Biology as a subject at the Higher Secondary level.
- For B.Com. I B.Com. C.A.I B.Com. IT I B. Com. Professional Accounting: Commerce as a subject under the academic or vocational streams at the Higher Secondary level.
- For B.Sc. Food Science and Nutrition: Science Stream at the Higher Secondary or Home Science level with 50% or more. Direct Candidates with Diploma in Food Technology I Food Science or Nutrition or HotelI Catering Management from any recognized University I Institute will be admitted to the course.
The students of all undergraduate programmes (other than B.Com.) should compulsorily study a language under Part I. Tamil, Hindi and French are the options available.
ADMISSIONS TO POSTGRADUATE AND M.PHIL. PROGRAMMES
M.A. English
Eligibility
Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in English can apply for this programme. Those awaiting the final semester / year results can also apply. All those who hold a Bachelor’s Degree in some other major subject and who have secured 60% or more in Part II English after two years of study can also apply. However, their admission, if selected, will be provisional and will be confirmed only when they produce the final mark sheet of the qualifying examinations on or before the date scheduled by the college.
Master of Commerce (M.Com.)
Eligibility
Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or its related subjects can apply for this programme. Those awaiting the final semester / year results can also apply. However their admission, if selected, will be provisional and will be confirmed only when they produce the final mark sheet of the qualifying examinations on or before the date scheduled by the college.
M.A. Social Work
Eligibility
A pass in Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences / Humanities / Business Management / Commerce or any Science degree from a recognized university is required for applying. Those who are awaiting the final semester results can also apply. However, their admission, if selected, will be provisional and will be confirmed only if they produce the final mark sheet of the qualifying examinations on or before the deadline fixed by the college in this regard. Applicants are requested to provide details of any other qualifications and work experience
M.Sc. Mathematics
Eligibility
Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics can apply for this programme. Those awaiting the final semester / year results can also apply. However, their admission, if selected, will be provisional and will be confirmed only when they produce the final mark sheet of the qualifying examinations on or before the date scheduled by the college.
M.Sc. Physics

Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Physics can apply for this programme. Those awaiting the final semester / year results can also apply. M.Sc. Environmental Science
Eligibility
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in any life science subjects Botany/Zoology/Microbiology/ Environmental Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Biochemistry/Geography and Agricultural Sciences are eligible to apply. Those who are awaiting the final semester/ year results can also apply. However, their admission, if selected, will be provisional and will be confirmed only when they produce the final mark sheet of the qualifying examinations on or before the deadline fixed by the college in this regard.
M.Sc. Microbiology
Eligibility
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in any life science subjects (Zoology / Microbiology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Botany / Biology / Pharmacy / Food & Nutrition / Nursing) are eligible to apply. Those who are awaiting the final semester / year results can also apply. However, their admission, if selected, will be provisional and will be confirmed only when they produce the final mark sheet of the qualifying examinations on or before the deadline fixed by the college in this regard.
M.Sc. Food Science
Eligibility
A pass in any one of the following undergraduate programmes with a minimum of 50% marks in Part III subjects.
B. Sc programme in Food and Nutrition, Food Science and Quality Control, Clinical Nutrition & Dietics, Food Technology, Home Science.
B. Sc programme in Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology
M. Phil Research Programmes
Eligibility
Men and women candidates with 55% (50% for SC / ST) in respective disciplines can apply. Those who have appeared for the final semester examinations in April 2018 and are awaiting results can also apply with marks obtained in the preceding three semesters.
The selection will be on the basis of marks secured in the M.A. / M. Com / M.Sc. examinations.

Eligibility
Candidates with a minimum pass percentage of 50 in any degree (SC/ST 45%) or those appearing for the final year examination may apply. Valid Management Aptitude Test (MAT/ CAT/TANCET/CONSORTIUM) scores, not earlier than September 2018, along with the marks scored in the entrance test conducted by ASBA will be considered for admission.
MCA ADMISSION
Eligibility
A pass with minimum percentage of marks in Part III as per the Government norms in B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science / IT / IT and Management/ Software/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Applied Science/ Electronics

Students who have completed Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years duration in BCA, B.Sc. (Information Technology/ Computer Science) with Mathematics as a course at 10 – +2 level or at Graduate level shall be eligible for admission to second year MCA courses.
