The academic year 2024-2025 for freshers will start with Orientation Programme:Satellite Campus:

ALL SF UG & PG – Wednesday, 26 June 2024 at 10.00 a.m. in the Assembly Hall, Chatrapatti.

Main Campus:

All Aided UG & PG and SF PG – Thursday, 27 June 2024 at 10.00 am in the Edward Nolting Hall, Goripalayam.

All Art SF UG – Friday, 28 June 2024 at 10.00 am in the Edward Nolting Hall, Goripalayam.

All Science SF UG – Friday, 28 June 2024 at 10.00 am in the Edward Nolting Hall, Goripalayam.

All students are asked to report at the respective department registration counter at the Flint Square between 8.00 a.m. and 9.45 a.m. Students who have paid the Hostel Fees are asked to report to the respective Hall immediately after their registration at the department counter.

Ensure you bring the following documents with photocopy:

INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES

U.G. Class Room Facility

The U.G. Department of Tamil has spacious classrooms with adequate wooden furniture for the students and is situated in the second floor of the Department of Tamil

P.G. Class Room Facility

The P.G. Department of Tamil is located on the first floor of the Department of Tamil. In addition to M.Phil. and M.A. class rooms, the department houses a language lab, and a seminar cum library hall with adequate furniture and podium.

Activities

Three important seminars were conducted by the Department – on Jeyakantan in 1986, sundara Raamasami in 1993 and Neela padmanaban in 1998. Critics and scholars participated in these seminars. Men of letters like C.S.Chellappa, K.Rajnarayanan, K.Tamilselvan & Melanmai Ponnuchami have presented many lectures in the department. In 1996,  the Tamil Department creditably conducted a three day seminar on ‘Tamil society in changing times’. Eminent Professors like sirpi Balasubramanian, Tamilannal, Bala.Srinivasan, Rajaram and Chandramurthy presented papers. The seminar was organsed to mark the successful completion of 25 years of B.A. Br.XII Tamil course and hence was rightly termed the SILVER JUBILEE SEMINAR. In 1997, a departmental seminar by name arivarangam was started; it facilitated the staff and the PG students to read papers on Tamil language and literature. Many papers on various topics were presented. The seminar was conducted once a week and the programme lasted for two years.

Library

The Department of Tamil has two libraries at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. The Undergraduate department library has a collection of 1318 books. The postgraduate and research department library has a collection of more than 8300 books to its credit and it serves the students, and the researchers associated with the department. Apart from this rich collection of books, a list of journals and periodicals are also subscribed.
