The American College

 

Hockey considered to be the National game of our nation. It’s a pride thatThe American College, Madurai organizedBishop Dr. A. Christopher Asir Memorial 8thState Level Intercollegiate Hockey Tournament between 15th to 16thMarch in the college Hockey ground. Ten State Level Hockey teams participated in the Tournament. Teams participated are as follows: Chennai, Coimbatore, Kovilpatti, Sivakasi and also various teams of Madurai District. In the first semi-final SSDuraisamy Nadar College, Kovilpatti team won against SRMIST University, Chennai team with the margin of 1-0 goals. In the second semi-final Govt. Arts and Science College,Kovilpatti won against The American College, Madurai with the margin of 4-0 goals. SRMIST University, Chennai andThe American College, Madurai secured 3rd and 4th position.

In the finals, The American College, Madurai team won Bishop Dr. A. Christopher Asir Memorial 8thState Level Intercollegiate Hockey Tournamentagainst SSDuraisamy Nadar College, Kovilpattiwith the margin of 3-0 goals. Prize distribution Ceremony took place in the college ground on 16thMarch at 4 pm. The programme was started with the prayer by Chaplain. Rev.John Jeya Kamaraj. Dr.A.Martin David, Controller of examination welcomed the gathering. Dr.M.Davamani Christober, Principal presided over the function and delivered the Chief Guest address and distributed the prizes to the winning teams. The wining team received the Cash prize of Rs.15,000 along with the Bishop Dr. A. Christopher Asir Memorial trophy and the runners up team got cash prize of Rs 10000 along with Rajamannar Memorial Trophy. Dr. M. Balakrishnan,Physical Director proposed the vote of thanks.

Students, Teaching and Non-teaching staffs of the college, Physical education Directors of various colleges and Universities along with the general public witnessed the Valedictory function. Physical Education director organized the tournament meticulously.
