Annona squamosa

Common names: Custard Apple, Sugar apple.

Flowering Period: June – October

 

Description

  • Annona species are evergreen trees.
  • Leaves are elliptic to oblong with rounded to acute apex (5-15 cm long, 2 – 5 cm wide). Leaves are alternate with entire leaf margins.
  • Annona squamosa is a slow-growing tree.

Uses   

  • The vitamin C in sugar apples offers antioxidant benefits and also helps to boost the immune system.
  • Extracts of the plant have shown anticancer activity.
  • An oil distilled from the leaves is applied to the head for treating sleeplessness.
