Soroptimist International is a global women’s organization started in 1921 by a group of 80 women in Oakland to work for the benefit of underprivileged women and girls across the world. Soroptimist International works to realise the UN Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on gender equality. The Madurai chapter inaugurated in 2009 is the 16th Soroptimist Club in India and the second one in Tamil Nadu after Chennai. Soroptimist inspire action to transform the lives of women and girls around the world. Soroptimists are women who use the special expertise and management skills developed in their working life to advance the status of women and to try to make the world a better place. The Madurai chapter of Soroptimist International joined hands with The American College to start Soropti Youth Club for Girls to work for the wellbeing of women.
