Aquaculture

India is in need of an education system, which is affordable, flexible and relevant to the individual as well as the society. Skilled workforce, managers, and entrepreneur are in great demand. Moreover, the skill-oriented curses available in the market have low creditability and acceptability in the industry. Recognizing this scenario, the UGC has introduced the concept of community college to offer skill oriented courses, which can be accessed by marginalized students.

UGC approved Diploma, Advanced Diploma courses in aquaculture with skills based on NSQF and NOS offered under American college -Community College since 2015. B. Voc and M. Voc degree programme in Aquaculture offered from 2018 and 2020 respectively. At present B. Voc and M. Voc degree programme in aquaculture are affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.

The department of aquaculture focuses in providing practical mode of training for the students in edible and ornamental fish culture and to acquire the skill sets to get placed in the reputed marine hatchery industries as well as to promote the thirst to become young entrepreneurs in the aquaculture field.

The department endorses frequent site visits and internships to captivate the students minds in to the vast world of aquaculture and import employment focused knowledge. The department is well equipped with experienced faculty, External Subject Experts, MOUs with reputed institutes and Skill providers, Modern Aquarium Facility and Artificial ponds for indigenous freshwater fish culturing and aims to provide employment-based skill training and also enlighten the students with the Entrepreneurial aspects of Aquaculture.
