The Department was founded in 2016 as part of the American College-Community college initiative under the approval of the University Grants Commission and Department of Human resources and Development, Government of India. Since then, it has grown into a B.Voc and M.Voc degree programme in 2019. Today it offers B.Voc degree and M.Voc degree under the affiliation of the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The department has MoUs with leading hospitals in the city. This helps the department to create internships for the students and also enables the department to open placement opportunities. Exchange of knowledge in terms of seminars, invited lectures and workshops are also part of the memoranda. The department has MoUs with The Apollo Hospitals, Meenakshi Mission Hospitals, Aravind Eye Hospitals, Grace Kennett Foundation Hospitals, Saravana Multispeciality Hospitals and Vadamalayan Hospitals. The unique feature of the Medical Laboratory Technology department is that most of the students are in part-time jobs as lab technicians almost within a year of joining. Many of the students are employed in leading labs and hospitals such as The Apollo Hospitals, Bharathi Hospitals, Bose Clinical Laboratory, Thyrocare, V Care Diagnostics to name a few. The course is designed in such a way that students are confident enough to establish their own diagnostic labs in places of need. In the past year alone, two of our students have established their own labs.
